Symphonic followup

Over on Reddit, someone asked about TooLost, and I mentioned that I used to use them and to avoid them like the plague and I said that I’ve been using Symphonic. They had some followup questions for me and I felt that my answer was detailed enough that I should also post it as a blog post here for future reference.

This is sort of a followup to my previous review about them; nothing has really changed but I’ve had more encounters with their support side of things that I have a more detailed picture on what it’s like to work with them day-to-day.

Symphonic’s genre listing

As part of reuploading my catalog to streaming, I’ve had to deal with Symphonic’s… less-than-ideal user interface, and one of the biggest pain points is how they present their genre listing, with a hard-to-search and super-inconsistent two-pane interface that makes it hard to find a specific genre unless you know which particular category they decided to put it in.

Fortunately, it’s all just data, so I was able to scrape the interface in order to get their current (as of March 19, 2026) genre and subgenre list.

This is subject to change, of course.
